API Barite for Texas Drilling Operations

Barite (barium sulfate, BaSO₄) is the primary weighting agent in water-based and oil-based drilling fluids. Currently, API Specification 13A Section 5 defines the minimum requirements: specific gravity of 4.10 g/cm³ or greater but now due to low levels of supply availability most operators use 4.00 g/cm3.
